Senior Victims First Officer 

An exciting opportunity to join our Victims First team and make a difference every day.


As Senior Victims First Officer, you will provide advice, support and advocacy to victims and witnesses of crime across Thames Valley with a particular focus on either children and young people or Sexual Violence and Domestic Abuse. You will also provide supervision and line management to Victims First Officers supporting them to effectively carry out their role.

We are looking for an effective, emphatic communicator with case management experience who has a genuine passion for making a positive impact on the lives of victims of crime.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide practical advice, emotional support and advocacy to victims of crime across the Thames Valley, ensuring that victims are referred on to specialist support where required.
  • Provide specialist oversight of children and young people or Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence referrals.
  • Take a multi-agency approach by liaising with partners and with victims to ensure service users have access to appropriate support and that pathways are clear.
  • Provide supervision and line management to Victims First Officers to support them to be able to effectively carry out their role. This will include advising on key issues such as safeguarding, risk assessment and providing crime type expertise.
  • Be responsible for a diverse caseload across various degrees of complexity and need. Take positive and decisive action in relation to immediate safeguarding concerns.
  • Support the Victims First Hub Manager in the process of monitoring incoming work and prioritising workload based on demand, risk and vulnerability to ensure that work is delivered to specific deadlines and an effective service is provided. Ensure compliance to the Victims’ Code and the Victims First Hub Operating Procedures.


The successful candidate will have:

  • A flexible approach to working.
  • Experience of working within a statutory, voluntary, community, or charity environment providing support to victims of Domestic Abuse and/or Sexual Violence. 
  • A current SafeLives (or equivalent) IDVA/ISVA/ChISVA/ChIDVA qualification or a willingness to work towards accreditation within a specified timeframe.
  • Experience of supervising and supporting a team of staff, preferably within a remote support service or call centre environment.
  • The ability to complete individualised support and safety plans and to make referrals to relevant agencies.
  • A focus on customer service, with empathy and dedication to supporting victims, witnesses and/or vulnerable people showing resilience when dealing with vulnerable/distressed service users.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work on your own initiative, prioritise a demanding workload and demonstrate good decision-making under pressure.


The role is based out of our Victims First Hub in Reading.
